Interview!
You recently lost the player of Morzza. How has this affected Taunted?
It has been a big step backwards in our snd. Morzza was part of the core 5 and has been for quite some time. Not only was he an outstanding player, but he was our snd captain and stratician (I think that is a word)! It has meant we have had to work out who our new core 5th is, and with that, we have gone with CGi winner Millyum who is doing good so far.
MorzZA was the other captain for Taunted, will his leadership be missed in the team or will another member step up and take the role?
Absolutely. Morzza's knowledge and love for strats / prep is irreplaceable. It won't affect us for 4s, but it has been something we have had to adapt to for snd. Morzza kept us as a well organised and well drilled snd team. Shockz has stepped up in organising our snd strats as have some of the other guys in the team. We've found that our style of snd without Morzza has changed significantly. We've stopped playing with a wide variety of pin point accurate strats and are playing a more free-roaming and relaxed style of snd where teamwork has gotten us through. So far it has worked for us.
You're currently holding first position on the S&D ladder, do you think you'll be able to maintain this position until the ladder lock?
We have a pending game vs Afterlife that will determine if we do hold an undefeated regular snd season or not. I think we can keep holding #1, but it all depends on how this match plays out as Afterlife are one of the best snd teams right now.
The highly anticipated League season is coming up, what are Taunted's expectations and goals leading up to this?
Although we thought we had some work to do in proving ourselves again back in early Dec, we've spent most of Jan expecting to qualify for CGi. We are hoping to have a solid finals run and the goal would be to ultimately win MW3 CGi. There is some stiff competition though, especially with how Afterlife and Genesis are playing, not to mention the return of Mindfreak and Vox Eminor - that is five teams capable of winning. It is going to be an interesting MW3 CGi season.
Last time you came up against Afterlife, you lost. How are you feeling about playing them this time around?
Feeling neutral about it to be honest. We've beaten them also, I think on Lockdown whilst our loss was on Seatown. This is a different map once again so it is hard to know what to expect. They had a good win on Bootleg recently though, so this should prove to be a tough match. We are a bit weary of Afterlife knowing that they are very much like what we were this time last year - a team who worked hard and jumped from not being expected to make CGi to actually being CGi contenders. That sort of underdog attitude is hard to stop but hopefully our experience as a team will get us over the line.
How did Taunted go at the Gold Coast LAN event? What came out of the experience for Taunted as a team?
We didn't place as well as we would have liked. At the same time though, our losses to both Cruelty Incarnate and Mindfreak were both close and good games. That combination of 4 had only played together for a week so hopefully we can build on that for future events. It isn't a team with much LAN experience, so hopefully we gained some of that.
What could have worked better?
Experience I think is what cost us. Being dominant and outshooting a team for 9 out of 10 minutes, but that 1 minute in the middle somewhere was crucial and cost us maps by 1 flag on multiple occassions. We needed more time as a team before the event to overcome those crucial match defining moments that we couldn't clutch when needed most.
You've recently picked up Freshmaker, how is he coming along with the rest of the team?
We've had him in the team before, so we know what to expect and there is no chemistry issues. He gets along with the team extremely well. I was a bit hesitant at first on the idea, but scrims over the past week have proven me wrong and I'm glad the boys put pressure to make the decision in picking him up. He is actually 10x the player in MW3 than he was in BO. With the upcoming 4v4 ODC, we've got Wang absent for some of the day so we will be unleashing Fresh and seeing what he has to offer. We've been preparing with him though, so there is no doubt in our minds that he will contribute in getting us over the line.
