It was reported by the SGL admins that SGL 7 is being proposed and looked at for around April 2012 (3 months time), so to save from the short notice of the previous one, I thought we'd discuss all things SGL and BF3 LAN here.
After the fun of teh event, eXile5 will more than likely be sending a full team to the event again, but really hoping for the pressure and competitiveness that makes LAN's truly fun. I can understand that with only a couple of weeks notice, it was hard for most other competitive teams to convince their managers that it was a good move, so let's get as much info up asap, so the ball can start rolling.

If anyone has any feedback, or any experience in running a LAN for BC2/BF3, it would be great to hear your thoughts on how to make the (annoying) system work well. Would really like to hear from you Arsey from ON3, after 2 successful years running BC2 at XLAN. 2010 XLAN was such an awesome setup with the stage matches, and on screen broadcasting etc. Stuff like that is what I want to see!

Would be good to hear from SGL admins about the progress of the next one too, over the next few weeks.

Sounds good!

1. Have 1-2 admins that are dedicated to admining the BF competitions.
2. Have 6-8 servers set up, with the admin running the competition monitoring them via procon. This would also let the admin be able to check the chat (teams should post in chat who won) and update the brackets without constantly being harassed at the table
3. Determine and announce the official prizes and format at-least 1 month in advance so teams have time to organise flights and other stuff
4. Allow fixed teams to pre-register for the BF3 competitions
5. Post the ruleset, maps and brackets at-least 1-2 weeks before the LAN so teams are able to prepare (also consult the top teams / CG about the rule set)
6. Ensure that players are able to join servers at the LAN before the LAN starts!
7. Some form of shoutcasting for big matches, maybe a caster and a camera man walking around the teams desks looking at screens to try and work out whats going on
8. If there looks to be a large turnout maybe make a BF section similar to the ozfortress and SC2SEA sections for more bondage

Hopefully iM can get in on this one :-D

Pretty much this would make for an awesome LAN, I'm sure most decent teams will go if it's properly supported

ShoutCaster
From technical and casting, BF games are my favorite to spectate (behind the shoulder) but also hardest to convey whats happening in a match with much quality. Come February with whatever the patch has and possibly a patch before april, thats at least two chances we good have some major server changes (selectable weapon locks, battlecorder, spectator position ingame).

But yeah like Kopta said, the above would make for an awesome lan.

Smaller attendance and prize pool would be a result.

Prizes wouldn't be a problem for me some people have work or other events most times and cant attend etc

When there is a smaller prize pool there will probs be no competitive side at the LAN.. the only people which would show up is those who live in the state the LAN is held.

Well the LAN idea sisko and i had, before he ran away with the money, involved a centre stage where all they finals of competitions would be played and publicised. Essentially it was a two tier stage where the first tier had admins and shoutcasters, and the second tier had 8 computers opposite each other which would host the finals of the competitions. Camera's were to be set up on opposite sides, aswell as 2 projectors displaying the competition and other information about the LAN on a drop down right above the stage, for both sides of the LAN. There'd be shitloads of room for banners and advertising, and this stage would be the focus of the competition as everyone would be set up to face it, with all tables set up around the layout.

I think this image best describes what i can't: (sorry for the fail mspaint lol)

Or the projectors and screen might have been north to south allowing an easier walkway to the tier 2 stage, i can't remember:

Or alternatively set up the competition tables in the same diamond format.

We had the novelty idea of dimming the lights, and having each side light up while we'd announce the player heading up to compete for his team, similar to the start of an NBA game hahaha
