Im finding very difficult to balance all my audio when gaming particularly in cod4 and bf3 and vent, im just not sure what levels to use in windows,ingame and in vent and ts. Currently using AD700s on asus xonar. As I want adequate voice volume and also be able to hear ingame at suspense moments and quiet situations without overpowering either the game or voice. . Any suggestions

not really much you can do except find your desired mix both between people in vent/ts, and then between vent/ts and the game you're playing. this is pretty old but in case you don't know about it;

http://wow.joystiq.com/2007/08/01/how-to-normalize-your-ventrilo-settings/

that'll give everyone in vent the same volume (or close enough), after that, you just have to keep the mix and only adjust your windows volume so you can keep the relationship easy.

you can start by turning off any of the dolby headphone or virtual surround options in the Asus Audio Centre, if you have any turned on.

all that virtual stuff sounds like what I imagine a dogs breakfast would sound like if it made sound.. catch my drift.

use stereo only. Dont use any preset equaliser settings, i.e. jazz, rock, metal etc. Just use default.

If you find you want more bass, make the adjustments to the EQ yourself.

i'll post a pic of my EQ. I like a little extra bass to my AD900's and a slightly reduced midrange (vocals, guitars etc) as I find them fatiguing for long sessions. Obviously you may like a different sound. Just play around with the sliders, see what they adjust.. without going into great detail the left side is for bass, the right side is for high frequencies, i.e. treble, such as high hats etc. And well, the middle area is for mid-range sounds such as vocals, guitars and what not.

i'll also add that the Dolby headphone stuff exaggerates particular sounds in order to create a sense of surround. This could be contributing to why you may have been having difficulty hearing people in vent.

you can if you like. I have a different profile for mt AD900s and my DT880's. Very similar but different enough to notice a difference.
