The moment has come yet again. It seems like it was only yesterday I was typing up a thread celebrating the first birthday for Cybergamer PS3. But we're here, one year later, one year wiser and one year stronger. That's right everyone it's been two years to the day that the doors to the PS3 section of Cybergamer opened up, and let me be the first to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY CYBERGAMER PS3!!!
A lot has happened over the last year, so where do I begin? Well, first things first, let's talk about the highly successful introduction of P2P leagues on PS3. When Black Ops first came out, we were all a little sceptical some praising it for being a great game, while other wise old sage's immediately saw it for the piece of trash it eventually turned out to be. (Aussiepride, I remember your genius at work)(also, yes you get another shoutout in this birthday thread xo) But, regardless of how crap of a game some of us saw it to be, the admin team managed to launch a P2P ladder and teams were now fighting for cashmoney.
But that wasn't the only P2P the admin team had in store for all you punters, oh hail no. After the completion of the Black Ops 5v5 SND P2P, we saw an objective P2P ladder, the MW2 P2P ladder and the COD4 P2P Ladder all of which providing great matchups. Through the use of these Pay to Play ladders, not only did CGPS3 attract a lot more people lurking around Call of Duty on the PSN, but it also attracted some fairly big names in competitive gaming; Frenetic Array, Parallel Gaming, Mindfreak, and Carnage all getting teams established on the PS3 Ladders.
We also had the pleasure of being introduced to shoutcasting thanks to Bioacid, Milan and Redrum. These three have given PS3 yet another boost in the competitive gaming scene in Australia by providing live, shoutcasted footage of some of the biggest matches on our Call of Duty ladders. And with the steady increase of people interested in not only having their games shoutcasted but also being shoutcasters themselves this is but another step toward PS3's total world domination.
With all these high-end e-sport teams showing interest in PS3, it would be hard to deny that our community is steadily increasing and getting our name out there for all to see. And in August we were given the news that in less than two years since the launch we had reached an amazing milestone; TEN THOUSAND MEMBERS!!! Celebrations were had as we found that more and more scrands were somehow finding their way to CG, signing up on our ladders, and posting uneducated, grammatical homicide within the forums. Good work Scrands! Our little boy was growing up, and starting to gain a little more solidarity with Uncle Xbox and Poppa PC.
Fast forward to November and the day majority of us had been waiting for. The release of Modern Warfare 3 was here. And with it came the end of a very dramatic and tiring year of playing a poorly ported Xbox 360 version of Black Ops. And as we all knew with how well MW2 was competitively, we did have decent hopes for how MW3 would fare. And for the most part, it wasn't too bad. While there are various small problems with the game competition wise, I am sure we can all be happy with the fact we have once again been provided with a solid framerate regardless of the questionable hit registration and the use of the almost exact same engine for the past 8,000 years.
Anywhoozle, it's been another full on year of craziness and laughter. Again we've lost a few wary souls along the way but we've also gained many more that will grow to become integral parts of our community. Our new head admin team; Chrsha, Devour and Rohi are working around the clock to make sure we get the best experience possible on Cybergamer, while our Call of Duty admins are also working day and night to make sure the ladders, and rulesets provided are nothing but the most competitive possible. We've got the new Cybergamer Pro, and Cybergamer Amateur leagues to look forward to, which will bring competition the likes we have never seen on PS3 before. And we've done all of this work within the space of two years. It really is amazing to see just how far we've come since the beginning, how much larger our community has grown and just how much there is still to go.
Cheers for another amazing years guys. And I am sure there's still plenty more to come.
