So my teammate stabby, who doesn't frequent these forums unless we link him to something funny/relevant to us, has not been using xfire for the last year or so because he said he couldn't get it working. Stabby is, to put it politely, not the most tech savvy man that CoD4 or CG has ever seen, so when he repeatedly told us that he couldn't get it working we all kind of assumed that it was some easy to solve problem on his end. Just last night, we finally got him to have a go at fixing it, he uninstalled, redownloaded and reinstalled and the same problem occurred. I'd thought that should have fixed nearly any problem that it was having but clearly not.

I'm now inclined to believe that perhaps the problem is some missing plugin/driver, or perhaps some sort of issue with a firewall. But I guess I should explain what the problem actually is. As soon as he opens xfire, whether logged in or not, the sections of xfire that I guess show the interactivity between people are blank. You'll see what I mean in the screenshots down the bottom. This was the same on the old install and when he reinstalled nothing changed. I had a quick google and looked on the xfire forums but the problem was hard to specify with only a few keywords so it was hard to get results. I was wondering if anyone on here has either

• Encountered a similar problem or seen a similar problem and knows some possible fixes, or
  
• From the described symptoms, thinks they have a good idea what could be causing it and as a result has some idea on what we can try and do to fix it.
  

The main reason we're trying to get it fixed, besides pretty much nullifying the whole "I can see how your game is going without even being in there" aspect of xfire, he also can't accept xfire invites, his ingame is massively glitched, and he can't click to join servers off people's xfires. These haven't all been confirmed with the new install of xfire he did last night, since the new install is the new skin/template of xfire, and he hasn't really tried using it to it's extent to see if all the functionality is still missing. He pretty much opened it up, saw the blank areas and told us that "It's still not working". So, any ideas?

Tell him to try swapping to the old Xfire skin, the new one is gimmicky as ****.
Doesn't work in CS for 90% of people and does ******ed shit when attempting to use it to chat in-game.

Yeah I asked him if he wanted to try the old one and he was like nah this one looks cool. On second thoughts I'll definitely make him try the original to see if the reinstall changed anything.

I think it might be an anti-virus.
