Match almost didn't happen, allowed their team to play subs not quite signed up in time the challenge was sent out. Didn't want to reschedule as wanted to experience my first match sooner rather than later to see how it played out.
Was going to start first round but by the time we spawned they were already planting haha so decided on playing another pre round and kick off with AXP (challengers) attacking at start of new map.
Tehran Highway
First map was Tehran Highway LBS on defence. Held them deep near the objective for a considerable amount of time with Whozeyohero doing a great job keeping alive / revives. AXP kept making good positioning and finally they got a flank on us and we all went down. Com station destroyed, a bit of disarray in our lines. Second com station destroyed quite quickly as a result. AXP 1 - LBS 0
On defense we noticed AXP defended much further up the map than we did and it worked quite well. Very hard to come down a hill that is quite open that literally only has two sides you can go with both of them covered our tickets drained very quickly. AXP were showing us how it was done AXP 2 - LBS 0
Caspian Border
Next map Caspian border on defence LBS not quite sure where the first wave/impact lines were and scrambled for position. Held them for a bit taking out squad only for a second plant when all down allowed them to get in there and defend for a period of time. We managed to clear them out but missed saving the com station, considering we wiped them out, had a few of still alive/revived then when the com blew those who were at the first objective had to make a mad rush to the next com station to defend it from the same direction the attackers were coming from. So two of us legged it completely out of position (annoying!!)
Not the best set up to defend this objective but again LBS lads just lacking experience at this game mode meant defence of the last com station was a relatively short affair. I think we got squad wiped a plant was made and we couldn't get back in there in time. AXP 3 - LBS 0
Only when we were attacking and staring down the barrel and realising what we were doing wasn't working for us we changed our tactics on attack around a bit and it seemed to have an immediate impact. Made a solid push on first com, a bit more aware of where the impact lines were going to be and pretty much rolled through the first com station pretty easily. Some nice revives kept us in the defense of com and gave us plenty of tickets to give the last com at the petrol station a real good crack.
Again excellent push 3 men went down, one survived, we respawned on him in good flanking position. AXP adjusted pretty quickly I might add but we strategically took them out for a squad wipe. Got the plant - when I pretty much made a poor decision at a crucial moment of defending the planted com station. I was reloading my weapon, enemy player runs past - what seemed like an eternity I saw this and was going to switch to pistol to take him out from behind. Instead I decided to wait out the reload, thinking extra bullets handy if need them. It must have been an empty chamber reload which are slightly longer as I say felt like an eternity. I saw him run into the room took out our bloke there, our other two lads were down and as I went to finish him off but as I did so his team mate spawned off him looking right at me. I took out the first and i thought I emptied a fair amount of bullets into the second bloke but he had the jump so they were like rubber or not rego-ing or something, took me out, squad down - they defused the plant when it was on its last legs. Maybe another 5-10seconds and we had it, so it was one of those really disappointing game changing decisions to wait out the ammo reload
The next push was ill fated as they had a good command of the forrest between us and objective and too slow and got caught at the rocks on the way. Lost some tickets. Got up to the station and had half their team down but got squad wiped, leaving us with 4 tickets and one final push. Didn't happen and LBS went down to AXP 4-0
Great games, but essentially an unprepared squad in this game mode was a huge factor that we thought we could wing once in the game vs a squad that had obviously practiced a fair amount in a short period since the ladders went up. All losses are good losses. We learnt a lot. Often the best way is in a match to see where your shortcomings are and addressing those issues/set ups. Im actually glad (as captain) I was involved in the loss to get a gauge at the level of competition, and to see what is required as far as directing other squads. At this stage LBS will still be mixing their line up around so that everyone gets a game in early season, fine tuning the line up for finals so that everyone can step in and play at top level at the crunch end of the season.
Congrats to AXP look forward to our next match -
