Depends on price/ what you'll use it for, ie a daily run about in the city: hatchbacks or small sedans.
Tradie or what not: ute (hiluxs and the like) or vans.
Live out in the sticks and have a dirt road or mountain to drive up, 4wd.

The point being, there is no absolute best car for p platers it all depends on what it will be used for and what your capabilities of paying for it.

That said, wish I had gotten something with rear drive and a bit of power, rather than a runabout hatch for a few years, but when the time comes to get off P's should have a bit of dosh to get something nice.

Probably like a commodore/falcon or some shit like that. and if you want to go down the cheap route try looking at those that run LPG, that is if you can stand the ridicule from said mates.

i got a subaru forester about 4- 5 weeks ago as my first car.

parents had a 96, I have the 08 they are very good car and last a long time. the newer ones including mine are 2.5L
