Thought i'd write a quick article on playing 2v2 CA.
2v2 CA is fairly straight forward, in concept. The idea in Clan Arena, in general, is to deal out more damage than you receive.
Having said that, there are a few things you should be aware of.
Rule 1:
Make sure there is never a time when the enemy is shooting at your team mate, while you aren't shooting at the enemy. This is basic math: if they ARE doing this, they're dealing more damage than receiving, and therefore, you will lose.
Good teams will maneuver the other team into a position where they can forcefully shut out one enemy player from the game (even if only for a few seconds). For example, trapping one of the other team in the curved room on thunderstruck, using rockets, then rushing to the other enemy and ganging up. Or using rockets to make someone fall off a ledge. It might look like it gains only a few seconds, but that makes all the difference.
Rule 2:
This is pretty elementary: You will use the right gun for the right distance.
Dont EVER use rocket launcher at anything other than close range. Use LG at mid range. Use rail at long range. I dont want to see you using RL to spam at guys far away, when you could be railing them... stop wasting your time, and potentially taking damage in return.
Also, be aware of which gun does how much damage. For example: Railgun has the lowest damage per second of the major guns (rocket, lg, rail). If you get into a close range fight against rocket launcher, while you purposefully have railgun out, you're an idiot. look rocket does 100 damage for face hit, ~78 for a good splash. it recharges in 800ms. basic math: thats 125 damage per second. Railgun recharges, what, 1.25 seconds? 1.5 seconds? and does 80 damage. thats like 60 damage per second. thats half RL damage. take into account accuracies of people, lets say a good player gets 50% rail... thats 30damage per second with rail. RL accuracy tends to be higher, but even if its 50% with rl, thats still double RG damage... at least. thats not taking into account the bounce of the rocket, which throws off rail aim and makes consecutive RL hits easy (decrease RG acc, increase RL acc, so maybe RL does 3 times as much damage as rail, up close. im exaggerating slightly, but you get the idea).
tl;dr: use right weapon for the right distance. rail at long, lg at mid, rl at close.
Rule 3:
You will dodge properly.
Another elementary rule. Learn to dodge.
Against RL: Draw figure 8s on the ground with your movement keys. randomise it. important to move forward and backward as well as left and right, not just left and right. More advanced tactic that requires a lot of experience and timing: switch directions just when enemy RL recharges to shoot. or even double switch, once switch just before weapon recharges, then instantly switch again when he shoots. this isn't easy to pull off, but it very much is possible and we do see people do it. you get the knack of it after a lot of experience. DONT JUMP. just don't get into the air at all.
Against LG: rapidly left and right strafing, mix up small left and right dodges with a random long left strafe, or a long right strafe. DONT JUMP. dont get into the air.
Against RG: rapidly left and right strafing.
Hmm, those are basics. if you can master them, you should do well in any 2v2 CA comp. As always though, practise makes perfect. practise and you'll do well :-)
