There was rumour late last year of an update for the Xbox 360 to support it; but that rumour also came with a Blu-ray drive being released for the 360. Then some people say that the console already
supports 7.1.
Regardless, the console can support it all it wants - it's the game that has to be done in 7.1 if it's going to work (none do AFAIK). There probably isn't really any harm in getting a 7.1 headset, as it'll probably become more available across games in the future/next Xbox mayhap. Just don't base a decision off 7.1 v 5.1 for Xbox if you're concerned about right now, is all. Plus, 5.1 does zee job - 7.1 you just get the direct left and right speakers, at the moment with 5.1, if there's a sound directly to your left, the front left and rear left speaker (or at least processed sound, considering most headsets have only two drivers) will fire at once and still give you the 'direct left' sound.
As for the OP, just stick with what you've got. You'd have to have a separate Mic for that headset to work with the Xbox (clip on Zalman, or wrap a MS communicator around your neck). You wouldn't notice much difference in sound (bass would probably be a tiny bit better, trebles probably not as a good) - certainly not enough to justify the cost. You'd only really notice a big sound difference if you went to 'proper' headphones, and used a separate mic.
