I found this link yesterday, and will help anyone who wishes to downgrade their CoD4 from version 1.7, back to version 1.6.

Overwrite the 1.7 files with the 1.6 files to go back to 1.6 version of CoD4.

I haven't tested it out myself because I have not updated yet, however, it should work.
