Looking for a new cooler coming into summer for my i7-920. Thinking about OCing it to 3.2GHz and while I can get away with that on stock cooling, I'm thinking I might as well drop $50-60 on a pretty looking one that will do a better job.

So yeah, any recommendations? I like the ones with slick designs and stuff but I can't find many that fit 1366 socket processors and I don't really want to have to use an adapter kit if I can help it.

Cheers!

Noctua NH-U12P is one of the best ones for 1366.

Can't go wrong with thermalright either.

grumpy, i have one of dem

but i only have 1 fan, MSY being gay and all gave me the conversion kit, but i only got 1 fan.

is there much of a performance drop from only 1 fan? also, with only 1 fan should i use it to blow air in or out of the heat sink? atm i think its blowing into it.

Idno, im still having CPU troubles ... only 1 core / 1 thread is being read for some ****ed up reason. Am reinstalling windows tonight in a last attempt before trying to claim warranty. And before i ran into these problems my cpu was not staying as cool as i would have thought it should for this heatsink. It wasnt HOT, but i just thought it would've coped with the 3.6ghz overclock i had on it... when i guess it didn't =/

im desperate for a fix grumpy! ill do anything :[

Man, the processor is fried for sure - reinstalling Windows isn't going to fix it if it's only picking up one core in BIOS. Don't waste your time.

It SHOULD have handled that overclock fine, but it also depends on the room it's in. How hot was it again the day it blew? Was there any dust involved?

1 fan is fine, it depends where you are positioning it though, my one fan is blowing into the TRUE120, and my back case fan is sucking (pulling).

There is minimal difference between 1/2 fan setups (push/pull), maybe 5 degrees @ LOAD (idle will be nothing).

Your CPU/mobo trouble... I would tell you to substitute the cpu for another samesocket cpu, and motherboard / motherboard.

You can kindly ask your friends/family / local pc shop to experiment with it.

I don't think it ****ed up because of the cooling, but you never know.
