Port Forwarding for your Xbox 360
Before continuing with this TUT you can try enabling your UNnP
here
Depending on what router you have, things might be a little different but basically the first thing you need to do is work out what your Default Gateway IP address and the subnet mask is, to do so you simply:
Goto your Local Area Connection on a computer and click details on the connection it will list it all there (usually Start Menu > Network or in the bottom right corner of your desktop in the taskbar), what the IP is for the computer and the default gateway and the subnet mask write them all down on a piece of paper. Mine is ;
10.1.1.1 - Default Gateway
255.0.0.0 - Subnet Mask
A common variation of this (it depends on router brand) is:
192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 - Default Gateway
255.255.255.0 - Subnet Mask
Then you need to turn on all the computers in your house and find out what their IP address's are to do so you will need to goto each computer. Access the Local Area Connection to find out what their IP's are. Mine are ;
10.1.1.3 PC
10.1.1.4 Laptop
Yours might be the 10.1.1.1 format or possibly 192.168.0.1 pretty much only the last number is important that's the number of the device, you can use any number from 1-99, Never re-use the same number for anything.
Now you need to turn your xbox on and goto the dashboard, goto the row that has your disc and then scroll across to the right end of that row where it says Settings, now click Network Settings change the connection from Automatic to Manual then using the information you have collected from your computers you can input the IP address and the Subnet Mask and the DNS Server.
If your PC's are using the 10.1.1.1 allocations simply do the following ;
IP : 10.1.1.11 ( make the last number something
different from all the PC's in your house )
Subnet Mask : 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway : 10.1.1.1
Primary DNS Server : 10.1.1.1
Secondary DNS Server : 0.0.0.0
If your PC's are using the 192.168.0.1 allocations simply do the following ;
IP : 192.168.0.11 ( make the last number something different from all the PC's in your house )
Subnet Mask : 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS Server : 192.168.0.1
Secondary DNS Server : 0.0.0.0
Now save and test connection and restart your xbox.
Now you must open your router and attempt to add in the Ports that need forwarding, simply open MY COMPUTER and assuming your setup is the 10.1.1.1 type that into the address bar and up will come a username and password box, it's usually Admin : Admin or Admin : Nothing.
Now look through every tab and button untill you find Virtual Server once you have found it you should be able to select the xbox's IP address and then add a set of rules : Click add.
* TCP 80
* UDP 88
* UDP 3074
* TCP 3074
* UDP 53
* TCP 53
Above are the ports you need to allow their should be 4 options when adding each one :
Protocol Port Start Port End Port Map
TCP 80 80 80
UDP 88 88 88
UDP 3074 3074 3074
TCP 3074 3074 3074
UDP 53 53 53
TCP 53 53 53
Now their should be a re-boot button somewhere in the settings of the router, hit that and then once it restarts go reset your xbox and then goto dashboard > settings > network settings and then test the connection, it should go right through without saying restricted network, if so then you have done it right, if not then go back to your router and goto virtual server or your port forwarding page and make sure you have all the settings and ports right and that it's still their after a re-boot, try resetting your xbox and router once more and test again if it dosen't work after that hit up google dude
Also, as extra reassurance that your 360s NAT will come up 'Open' - you can create a DMZ (De-Militarized Zone). All routers hide this away in a different place, but basically once you find 'DMZ' you can input the IP address of your 360. This should stop your router from interfering with any traffic going to or from that IP address.
