Hello

Ive decided to upgrade the PC, and was wanting opinions on the following build (im on a budget of $1000, and already have a Cooler Master case and 600W PSU)

LG W2253TQ-PF 21.5" Wide LCD Monitor 2ms response 50000:1 HD 22"*** $169.00
AMD PHENOM II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition CPU, 3.40 GHz, 6MB $212.99
Asus RADEON 4890 1G DDR5 PCIE2.0 2xDVI HDTV HDCP HDMI $234.30
Corsair CMV4GX3M2A1333C9 4GB (2x 2Gb) (1333MHz) DDR3 Performance*** $116.60
Western Digital 1TB, Caviar Green, SATA-II, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache*** $95.70
Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H (Rev.1.0) M/board - AM3, AMD785G/SB710*** $119.90

All parts quoted from http://www.tigersdirect.com.au/index.php

Are those prices cheap?
Is there anything you would change?
Does that Gigabyte motherboard have any IDE cable connections on it? I want to be able to use my current LG DVD burner if possible.

Cheers

all those prices look to be about the cheapest you can get

^ please tell me your kidding... the only thing that i would change is the hard drive, the WD Green hard drives spins at 5400rpm whereas if you get the WD Black or Blue they spin ay 7200rpm... it's not much of a difference but you can tell. especially when the hard drive starts to fill up.

yeah caviar black is the go, other than that looks like a sweet build, would maybe look at the ati 5xxx series cards if you could afford it, much better cards than the 4xxx series.

Pretty nice build man, I'd just change HDD to a WD Black or an F3.

Also, while it might not be the case all the time, but I have had a shocking time dealing with TigersDirect recently - so I would advise steer clear of them. Maybe look at ITEstate since you are in NSW.

Have a look at Whirlpool as well, as they have some good budget suggestions.

Thanks for the info, they didnt have any 4890's in stock, so i went with a xfx 5850.

Terror i wish you had seen this earlier, cause my oder turned up without the xfx 5850 and the dvd burner, and a fort night latter im still waiting. They are a ******* joke to be honest, and i would also recomend to everyone to stay well clear of them

PC Platform Mod
Quote from BULLITPROOF on the 23rd of February 2010:
Yeah mate try look for an Intel i7 instead of AMD Quad Core. [/del]An i7 has 7cores and runs heaps smoother than a 4core Quad. [del]

It has 4 cores as well. 8 threads. And does not run "smoother".
