dont like chicks that scream, sounds like a bitch on her rags having a rage while she strangles her cat. I do like bands like Nightwish and Lacuna Coil

Female growlers can be just as good as the boys, just that most of them can't help but go too high pitch on the growl so it ends up kind of annoying/distracting. There are two exceptions: Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy who has admitedly gotten better over time.

Less well known and (in my oppinion) best female growler on the planet that I know of is Tokkio Shimamoto of the jap band Shadow:



As for females in bands, just off the top of my head...

Daysend - Meredith Webster (Bass) (Sydney Band)
Eluveitie - Anna Murphy and Meri Tadic (Folk Instruments/Violin/Vocals)
To-Mera - Julie Kiss (Vocals) (Also one of the hotter chicks in metal)
Sonic Syndicate - Karin Axelsson (Bass) (Used to be hot too before she cut her hair)
Draconian - Lisa Johansson (Vocals)
Moredhel - Sarah (Keyboards/Vocals) (Melb band)
Universum - Rachael Madden (Keyboards) (Adelaide band)

There's a dozen or so other bands that come to mind with female leads but they are mostly all shitty euro nightwish knock off's.

Anyone know of any female lead guitarists or drummers? I swear there seems to be some unofficial rule that chicks can only play bass, sing or keyboard :/

Christina from Lacuna Coil is the best.

She certainly makes one... stand at attention

Otep is also quite the vixen, however Maria Brink from In This Moment wins the boner award and skills..
