Now he wants to filter peer-to-peer file sharing, i.e. bittorrent.

Has this government been completely deaf to the outraged complaints from both ISP and consumer alike?

i would imagine they have good reason to be 'deaf' - the majority of internet users in aus. are probably mum and dad, not tech-savvy people who dont use or probably even know what p2p is.

i mean, why would the govt. have to listen to a niche of net users - in the end, they serve the majority who are 'internet illiterate' and indifferent to p2p technology.

anyways. **** the filter.

wait wait wait, so the government will allow a 5% cut in emissions and give a more than fair compensation to businesses that are affected the most, yet when our internet is being restrained etc etc, neither business or individuals get any benefit. Riiiight.

Does this have to be passed as a Bill or can he just Enforce that every ISP has to apply the filter?

I dont see this ever passing though, and the public will kick up a massive stink,

Any Law students out there that can verify the process of this actually taking effect?

saukoa, pretty sure anything that the government tries to enforce has to be backed by a law of some sorts, therefore needing to be passed through the house of reps and senate

.

saukoa it has to be passed by vote in the houses, which the likelihood of it actually making it through is not high.

the government are doing a good job of ******* themselves for the next election, and to think theyve only had one year. imagine how badly they can do with a full term!

besides, peer to peer isnt illegal aka bittorrent

any proxies or vpns to combat ANY restrictions implemented by the Rudd government or ANYONE will significantly slow down your bandwidth

Thought so, is there any other pollies backing Conroy or is he just going out and doing it on his own accord? I know there's a lot of push from the church and children groups etc.

In the end all these tests etc are getting funded by tax payers money.Good to see that the ridiculous amount of tax that middle to high income earners pay is going to good use.

Pretty sure there was a poll on Sunrise and out of a couple thousand sms's there was something like 97% of people did no want the filter.
