you cant all hate Conroy that much, i mean he did just tell Telstra to shove there half assed plan up their ass, which imo is massive news for Aus internets in the long term.

I highly doubt any of his filters will make it past the trial stage for a long long time.

"Less than a week before the trial was due to begin, participating ISPs Optus and iiNet said they had not been told if their applications had been accepted."

Ahhh wtf since when did Optust opt into this shit? FFS >.<

Although I find it quite the lol a week before the deadline and they don't even know whats going on. Test is gonna be a shambles. And to be honest, if I get hit with it, looking forward to bypassing it at every available opportunity. In fact Im literally going to sit here downloading as much shit as humanly possible through a proxy.

Previously thought to be limited to HTTP and HTTPs web traffic, the touted Australian Internet filter will also target P2P traffic. In response to a comment posted by a user on his department’s blog, Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy has admitted that BitTorrent filtering will be attempted during upcoming trials.

saukoa, pretty sure anything that the government tries to enforce has to be backed by a law of some sorts, therefore needing to be passed through the house of reps and senate

this bill was passed through the houses during the howard governement.

get this.
one of Rudds election promises was to get rid of the plans for a filter on the internet.

but the problem is that the bill to get rid of it didn't make it through. so the government is now forced to make an internet filter because of the previous government .

I can see any ISP willing to fight the filter policy making an absolute mint through new customers
