I agree with Powerslave's criticisms in that
a) Two-face's burnt half looked ridiculous (almost broke the sense of realism that the movie did so well at maintaining)
b) Bale's deep batman husk got a bit out of hand (I only really noticed it in the last scene however)
In saying that I loved the movie. Overall: awesome, especially loved the length; so sick of 1.5 hour movies that try to rush through everything so the kids with short attention spans don't get bored.
There's no shortage of similar opinions when I state that I loved Ledger's portrayal but I also liked the fact that it didn't overshadow the rest of the movie (so not a historical performance, but I say give him the Oscar for it, it's deserved).
The script was the stand-out for me, the social experiments and the hero-that-loses-out were some highlights. It was probably the most well written movie to come out of all these comic adaptations (imo obviously).
Basically, I'd give it 9 - 9.5/10. And to be honest, I would have liked to see that last boat experiment finish with a bang.
