#1.1 Left 4 Dead 2 Match Format:

  • Game Type: Versus
  • Number of maps: 1 full campaign
  • Number of teams: 2
  • Players per team: 4 (min. 3)
  • Allocated Time: 1 Hour 45 Minutes

#1.3 How to Win a Left 4 Dead 2 Match:

The winner is the team with the highest score at the end of the campaign (after both teams have played all maps as both the survivors and the infected). If the scores happen to be tied at the end of the campaign, the teams are to restart the same campaign playing one map at a time (as both Survivor and Infected) until one team has a higher score than the other, at which point the higher scoring team wins.

In the event that the time expires (approx 1 Hour and 45 Minutes) the score will be the score of the last part that both teams have completed, however under certain circumstances, teams may have the option to complete the remaining maps at later date.

#1.4 Left 4 Dead 2 Game Version:

The latest version of Left 4 Dead 2 provided by Valve must be used and it is up to the player to make sure they have the most up to date patch by the match.

#2 Left 4 Dead 2 Competition Rules

  • Unless specified, if a rule is broken then the maximum amount of points a team can lose is the points they gained from that round.

  • All players must record a demo of their matches. To do this: open console (~ key), type, as an example, "record cgL4D2_YourClanTag_vs_OpponentClanTag" and press ENTER. You must keep the demos of your matches for at least a month. Failure to produce a demo may result in a 1 week match ban, or more for repeat offenders. Demo's need to be kept for up to one month.

  • All players are urged to use their CyberGamer account name or a name similar to, however misleading/different names used by opponents (unless in direct conflict with another player's name) is not justification for a match dispute. If uncertain of a player's identity, ask for their CyberGamer name. Playing a player that is not on your roster will result in a forfeiture of the match. Teams are strongly urged to keep their rosters up to date.

  • Smurfing in a match (playing for a team that you aren't in the roster for) will result in you being banned for 1 week and the match result will be overturned. This includes creating multiple alias accounts. On the second offense you will be banned for 2 weeks. 3rd etc offenses will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

  • Both teams have FIFTEEN minutes from the match start time to have a minimum of THREE of their own players in the server. Teams are allowed to substitute players through the match, provided they quickly join their team. If a team drops to 2 players during the match, they have a maximum of FIVE minutes to get a 3rd player back in or they will forfeit the match. If a side has less than 3 players at the FIFTEEN minute mark then the match should not go ahead, the team with less than 3 players forfeits, however if both sides agree to play the match with less than the minimum required players then the match result will stand. The game must commence no later than the FIFTEENminute mark unless a team has less than 3 players and unless otherwise agreed. A team cannot try to forfeit the other team after that match has commenced.

  • The team that issued the challenge gets to choose which side they play first (Survivors or Infected).

  • If you both agree to play a match then you can't try to forfeit for something that you should have forfeited for at the beginning of the match.

  • If a team is breaking a rule, the other team must continue the match and say that they are breaking the rules. If they continue after they have been told then you may dispute for them rule breaking. If you do NOT tell the other team, you are allowing it to go ahead and then there is no grounds for a dispute.

  • Teams are to ready-up using the ReadyUp modification ONLY when they are actually ready. Once the match 'Goes Live' the players for both teams are free to move/attack. If a player has any connection problems they must be sorted out during the ReadyUp phase and their team is responsible for players not 'Readying' to prevent the round from going live. If a player has issues during the 'Live' phase of a round !pause can be used and should immediately be followed by an explanation in chat. The maximum 3 pauses per campaign are still affected by player connection issues, however if a player drops out completely a pause may be used past the limit. If your team exceeds it's maximum allowed pauses due to drop-outs it is advisable to replace that player as any further pauses after the limit, due to connection issues/drop-outs, may be grounds for dispute.

  • Do not talk excessively in global chat in-game, especially when you are asked by the other team. Being abusive will lead to a forfeit of the match at the ladder administrator's discretion.

  • The only spectators in a L4D2 Match are Gamestah shoutcasters whom hold the right to hold a shoutcast broadcast in whichever match they wish. Gamestah members have the tags "Gamestah|".

  • A referee (that is requested in match challenge) and administrators are allowed to join and leave games as they wish. The current Left 4 Dead 2 administrators and referees are:
  • - Arseynimz
    - Ragnarok
    - Meshu
    - Jekt
    - Shadzii
    - ZeeBOB
    - Zombie
    - philol
    - Powered By: DoS

  • Unsportsmanlike behaviour will be dealt with at the discretion of a ladder administrator.

  • Creating false/useless disputes will be dealt with at the discretion of a Left 4 Dead 2 ladder administrator.

  • All players should have an average ping below 150 ping. If 3 of your players have more than 150 ping, then you forfeit the match, unless the other team specifically allows the match to go ahead. To view a players ping press and hold TAB. If you wish to dispute because of this, multiple screenshot evidence is required.

  • Teams may only use a "sub" player if that player has applied to join said team, and is listed as ineligible status. The opposing team has to agree to the use of this player. You cannot create a dispute about this after the match is completed if you agreed to let the ineligible player play.

  • A ladder administrator may request a player or team's demo at any time, whether or not a dispute has been put forward. Not complying with administrator's request can be grounds for a temporary ban against the player in question or a forfeiture of the match, depending on the circumstances.

  • Inappropriate Team Names or Player names will see your team removed from the ladder, a warning will usually be issued first.

  • If survivors choose to camp the starting saferoom whilst a tank is in play, they are not allowed to continuously pick up new weapons to avoid having to reload. Picking up ammo or a new gun when completely out of ammo is allowed.

  • If an infected team loses control of their tank twice they MUST inform the opposing team that it is AI. Survivors are not to kite the AI tank too far forward into the map.

#3 Ladder/League Software Information & Rules

  • All times are given in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

  • In the leagues CGi and CGm, when a team is on the verge of disbanding, they cannot give their spot to another team. Although it is possible to do it by inviting another teams players into your team, it will be noticed and the team will be removed. It is unfair to other teams that need to top CGo or CGm to move up.

  • A team can only challenge an opponent up to half their own rank or four places higher than themselves, whichever is greater. For example: a team ranked 38th can challenge up to a team that is ranked 19th.

  • Upon receiving a notice of challenge, the team has TWO days to accept a time and date provided by the challenger for the match, otherwise it is deemed that the defendant has forfeited.

  • If a team successfully defends their position, the ladder automatically grants a "protected" status for FORTY-EIGHT hours, awarding immunity from challenges.

  • It is urged that teams competing in the invite league try and get challenge times sorted as quickly as possible. This will in turn keep the speed of the ladder going as quick as it can.

  • Challenging and winning will leave you with a normal status of "free".

  • If you lose a "Challenging" match you will become "vulnerable" for FORTY-EIGHT hours where you will be unable to challenge.

  • If you lose a "Defending" match you will become "vulnerable" for TWELVE hours where you will be unable to challenge.

  • If you do not accept a challenge or you decline the challenge you will become "vulnerable" for FORTY-EIGHT hours where you will be unable to challenge.

  • Teams are permitted to challenge the same team twice in a row, as long as one week has passed, and both teams are free from a challenge.

  • Following a match, it is crucial that each team must submit the result or select to dispute the match by 11:30PM AEST on the night of the match, unless you have a match that starts at 10:00PM, which then requires you to complete the match then post scores in dispute. Subsequently, the submitted results will be calculated and the teams will be granted either "vulnerable" or "protected" statuses. Disputes can be handled among the two teams; otherwise a ladder administrator takes appropriate action.

#4.1 Left 4 Dead 2 - Cheating and Exploiting

  • Cheating in a public match or in a ladder match will result in a permanent ban. Cheating includes but is not limiting to:

    - Wire frame drivers
    - Models that extend beyond reasonable bounds
    - Speed hacks
    - Or any other game play altering cheats

  • No Glitching is allowed. Definition of Glitching: "Glitching the practice of finding and exploiting flaws or glitches in video games to achieve something that was not intended by the game designers. Gamers who engage in this practice are known as glitchers. Glitches can help the player" - Wikipedia . Glitching will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

  • No Exploiting is allowed. Definition of an Exploit - To use or manipulate to one's advantage. Exploiting will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

#5 Other

CyberGamer staff and ladder administrators have the ultimate say as to what a team/player does is illegal or legal, it is impossible to list all bugs and exploits that are in "Left 4 Dead 2" therefore we only list the ones that we have knowledge about. If it isn't added to the list above that doesn't mean it's legal. Any player/team found taking advantage of exploits or found using any sort of hacks, will be banned for a period of time depending on the offense. If a team has knowledge that a player is using exploits or hacks, the team will also be dealt with.

The format and some of the rules from what is illegal and legal have been taken from the guys at ozLeft 4 Dead 2.com:
