Biography:
The Game 'Vietcong' was legit the best game competitively, and publicly to ever be played.

There wasn't any division in leagues. There was one league called Auscong, which ran a single ladder for all teams to compete in. It's fair to say that all teams across the board all maintained a high level of skill and smarts, basically the CG-o and CG-i were as one. And of course there was healthy clan rivalry, but it lacked any of the scrub-ish behaviour as seen in modern day CoD.

VC competitively was a CTF based game, with maps that actually had some body to them. Nading from spawn did not exist. A team's strats would actually have to be legit, because you couldn't afford to walk for a whole minute just to be shot, your team would suffer greatly, as respawning could take up to 60 secs.

Typically, 'wars' would consist of 30min halves, swapping sides (United States / Vietcong) at the half. Each side had its own weaponset, which again gave variety to a match, something CoD lacks.

Competitively, nearly ALL Vietcong maps were excelent. This meant there was great variety in matches and results throughout a given season of an Auscong league.

Weapon wise, both sides contained classes which contained specific weapon/ability types. These included:

Soldier/Fighter: General Assault weapons
Machinegunner: High-level ammunition weapons
Medic: Can heal team mates and self
Sniper: Option of Bolt or Scope rifles
Engineer: Can give ammo, and place tripwires(x3) and claymore(x1)
Radioman: Can call in Air strikes upon a selected point on the map (must be alive for atleast 60secs to make call)

Vietcong wars were immensely entertaining. Halves could consist of anything from a wave of flags being scored by both teams, to sometimes a whole 30mins being played without scoring a single flag. In some cases, both teams would acquire each other's flag, and a stand-off would result, by where the flag-bearer was hidden and protected, while the rest of the team attempted to retrieve their flag.

Strats would have to be re-assessed mid game depending on the opposition. Different maps had different choke points, these needed to be contained, while other areas could be explored and exploited. Air strikes were pivotal in swinging the momentum of a match from one side to another. It could clear an area which could then be pushed through. Alternatively, it could be aimed at an enemy spawn, to contain the opposition in their spawn, while your team pushed ahead and took valuable ground position.

Memorable moments included defining points in a match where a booby- trap/well placed grenade/air strike or friendly fire later proved key in defining the outcome.

Additionally, it was customary that full write ups of matches were posted upon its conclusion. Due to the exciting and extensive nature of Vietcong wars, write ups which simply re-lived the pivotal points of the match were always entertaining to read in full. Shoutouts to pivotal players on either side would also regularly be made, which further unified the community as a whole.

Out of the 3 Auscong leagues that ran, i'm happy to say i was apart of the winning team who won the 3rd and last Auscong league to run. How i wish the old VC community was still around =]

Shout out to Havik, the sexiest person to come out of Vietcong. And to Creme Caramel; Creme you'll always have my heart, let's run away and start a life together!
