What is CyberGamer?

CyberGamer is a website dedicated to competitive online gaming. Completely free of charge we supply users from PC and console (Xbox360 and PS3) with ladders, leagues, forums, file library's, galleries and much more. These features allow users to immerse themselves in an online community and compete against others with similar interests.
How did we get started?

CyberGamer.com.au was founded by two gamers, Jeremy "Asterix" Klaosen and James "sn@p!" Burroughs on the 9th of April 2007. We've built the website from the ground up. We do not use any open source software or templates. The site has been designed, developed and is maintained entirely by Jeremy & James.

Click here to view an original screenshot of the site on release April 9th 2007.... we've come a long way
Click here to view a screenshot of the second version of our website which was released in 2008.

You are currently viewing the 3rd version of our site, launched Feb 1st 2010, which should last us a lot longer than the previous two.

Initially, our goal was to create a home for the Call of Duty (PC) community in Australia by supplying free services such as leagues, ladders and forums. We soon found that in most cases members of the community had gaming interests outside of the Call of Duty series, and so we soon began implementing support for a variety of games.

With the explosion of traffic and interest CyberGamer is today attracting, our emphasis has somewhat changed since we began. Our efforts are now turned to keeping on top of the gaming scene by continuing to add new support for exciting upcoming titles while maintaining quality support for ageing classics. Our structure of catering for both hardcore and casual gamers is of vital importance to us, we want to continue supplying multiple ladders & leagues to accommodate for both demographics. Finally we want to keep our interface fresh and intuitive with our software unique and powerful.

CyberGamer USA was launched May 16th 2010, just over 3 years after CG AU was launched.

I first started playing competitive gaming in Call of Duty 1, in 2003. I started my first semi-serious clan "The Last Reconnaissance" with James Burroughs and other High School friends in 2004, the clan merged with "3M Gaming" for a while in early 2006. Near the end of year 12 (2005) I took an interest in learning PHP and mySQL, in 2006 James and I released the www.3mclan.org website, which had the most active Call of Duty forums in Australia.

After mainly playing in leagues/ladders through 2004/2005 I started running small leagues for Call of Duty 2 in 2006 under the name "3M Gaming Invite League" with James on the www.3mclan.org website, this soon became the highest skilled league for Call of Duty 2 in Australia. On April 9th 2007 James and I released the CyberGamer website, which essentially started as an upgrade from the 3mclan website under our own name.

I have since continued to play for "The Last Reconnaissance" in Call of Duty 1, 2, 4 and 5 in CyberGamer's Ladders/Leagues, making the finals several times in various CyberGamer invitational competitions.

Hi! I'm James. In game people know me as "sn@p! - the Johns Johnston".

My interests in online gaming began way back in high school when a bunch of mates and I decided that Call of Duty (1) was pretty much the greatest thing ever. For a while, hardcore amounts of 'scrimming' sufficed but eventually Asterix and I found ourselves thinking of ways to improve the community. With my passion for web-design and Asterix's for online development, one thing led to another and we finally came up with the idea of CyberGamer - a home for all gaming communities.

As far as my involvement with CG goes, everything you see on the site I have designed. I do all the CSS/HTML, all the flash and Actionscripting and most of the fancy Javascripting. So it is my responsibility to fix all CyberGamer's browser compatibility issues. Additionally I also monitor the forums and help people with general problems.

If you have found anything that doesn't look quite right on CyberGamer there's a 90% chance it's my fault! So please PM me!

Gaming first came to me when I purchased my first computer back in around 1996. a Pentium MMX166 and it came with a game called quake. I soon took to this game and spent a lot of time playing online over dialup even meeting and playing against some of the developers of Team Fortress 2. I joined left and ran a number of successful quake1 team fortress clans until the virtual death of the game.

I moved on from there to day of defeat as a casual gamer until I downloaded a beta of a game called Battlefield 2. I fell in love with this game and was amazed to discover the beta was actually a year old and the game had been in full swing for 6 months, so after buying the game I really got into the clan and competitive gaming scene which was a lot more complex since the quake1 days. I evolved as a gamer into a team leader and after a number of seasons at the helm of a clan and seeing the competitive aspect of the game wasted on the Gamearena system I came to CyberGamer looking to do something new and competitive.

Jeremy took me on board and gave me free reign where I developed with a group of other keen gamers the Small Format Mod, a competitive 6v6 gaming mod of Battlefield2. I was soon bored with that and slowly worked my way up the ranks of CyberGamer sharing ideas with Jeremy and strengthening and refining CyberGamer's business relationships. I spend a lot of my time now running my battlefield2 league and chasing business partnerships for CyberGamer and prizes for its competitive leagues.
