The G-Network

By Toby

Gamestah: eSports Commentary and Shoutcasting for Competitive Gaming

Gamestah is proud to announce the launch of a new show that's focused on everything about games. The G-Network will not only provide information on Team Fortress 2; Call of Duty; Battlefield; and Counter-Strike competitions, but will also look into every other area which would tickle a gamer’s fancy.

But what is in store for the first show?... Starting with the gaming divisions, TCB and the COD division in with the latest news on the Call of Duty scene, with the boys from the Über hour giving us the "What’s hot" in the TF2 world. The Counter-Strike division of Gamestah will provide the intel in Aus-Source about one of the longest competitive games in the world.

But of course, a show would not be a show without a look at the latest things released for gamers, and our technology expert Super Roach will run us through the latest hardware on the market. Once we know the hardware, we need the game to test it out, so join Tobi Wan as he has a look at not only top sellers of the year, but also some of the new and up coming titles in the first quarter of the New Year.

Also in the line-up for this premier show, is one of the most random members of the gaming community, the talented, and stupid enough to agree to being interviewed; Buczy. Of course the man pummelling him with questions in the most ra...

Exclusive DICE Interview with CyberGamer

By Richard Lawes

With CyberGamer.com.au moving into the Battlefield franchise we took to the e-streets to track down some staff over at the DICE studios in Sweden. We were lucky to come across Parker the Community Manager who was kind enough to take our questions to the team to see what they could come up with.

CyberGamer.com.au DICE interview:

Contributors:

Richard Lawes: CyberGamer.com.au Community Development Manager.

Karl Magnus Troedssen: Executive Producer.

Barrie Tingle: Associate Producer.

Some questions about the upcoming patch.

Q: Is the dice team looking to address one of the issues in BF2 where users are binding their mouse wheel to their forward key and getting a "turbocharged" Vodnik or APC as a result? Most servers just classify it as exploiting and ban for it but is it going to be rectified in the 1.5 patch?

A: We are aware of the increased speed that people are able to drive certain vehicles at and are currently investigating. We'd also like to thank the community on the Official Battlefield forums for providing us with plenty of information about this.

Q: Another item that seems to be heavily debated in Australian Battlefield is the use of macros, we know evenbalance put some work into preventing the use of these but is DICE looking into the issue aswell? with some of th...

6v6 Battlefield2 Going Live soon!

By Richard Lawes

With our recent venture into the Battlefield franchise Cybergamer is proud to announce its 6v6 Battlefield2 ladder is about to open.

The format is 6v6 and we are excited to see teams forming up quickly to get into the action. With a projected start date of the first or second week of January we here are gearing up getting all the ends tied to ensure all competitors have a rewarding and enjoyable experience. To assist us in this venture our friends and long standing supporters of Battlefield in Australia, Netgameradio have come on board to offer up live shoutcasts of selected matches. So get involved as 6v6 is going to be a great way to organise smaller groups of players for some truly fun and exciting games. With how the teams are shaping up its looking to be a great competition with early scrims showing that the powerhouses may lose some of there punch to good teams with great teamwork.

The ladder will be using the custom built Small Format Mod which has been developed solely to enhance gameplay in small format competition and comes bunded with 14 maps which are all adaptations to the maps you currently know and love. There will also be an additional map pack with 5 more optional maps for teams to select and we will make those available soon as single downloads or 1 whole package to make handling the downloads easier for all of you. Currently there are several servers running the mod so you can all download it and check it out and expect a patch to come before ladder play...

ONE WEEK TO GO TILL FINALS - Finals list uncertain

By Shaun VanRavenstein

Has anybody else noticed that next week is going to be huge?

Before reading my novel below, understand that I have based ladder positions for teams with the same number of wins-losses by the difference between rounds won, and rounds lost.

IE: two teams, both 3wins, 4 losses.

team 1 = 87 rounds won - 82 rounds lost (difference of +5)
team2 = 87 rounds won - 81 rounds lost
(difference of +6)

Team 2 would take the higher spot on the ladder.

Firstly theres the tussle betwee DA, GUF & TU for the top 3 spots, which are guaranteed this cannot change.

What can change however, is 4th spot.

4 out of the 5 remaining teams are all GENUINE chances to play off in the finals.

The KKK are arguably the luckiest team, drawing Ethereal Realms (and therefore the 24-0 win by default). Giving themselves every chance of snagging 4th spot. with 3 wins, 4 losses and a round margin of 87-82

Hot on their tails will be the team from IBISQ, who have drawn the GUF team. Purely to make my analysis that little bit more 'interesting' lets say GUF wins 16 rounds to 8. This would then leave the IBISQ team ALSO with 3 wins, 4 losses and a round margin of 86-82. 86-82 will not be enough to bypass the KKK with 87, therefore IBISQ need to ensure they manage to take at LEAST 9 rounds of GUF this week to bypass the KKK team.

Two teams that have a true playoff-style match next week are the team from Cyberbunker, and the Barracks up north. Both teams currently sitting on 2 wins, 4 l...

CyberGamer Update!

By Jeremy Klaosen

Hey guys,
If you’ve come from the homepage you would have already noticed we’ve added to and improved a great deal of the site overnight.

For starters the homepage now features a better layout and is now oriented at delivering up-to-date news and will encourage more frequent user written articles. We've also implemented a hot .js scroller to the top right that will roll through ‘featured’ banners so you don’t miss anything big that happens on CG again!

On the data front, we’ve changed the way we organise all our past ladder results, news & articles and CG champions (not yet shown). These have all been grouped into a new ‘Archive’ section of the site that can be accessed through the top navigational menu.

Finally, we’ve added a WoW section to the site. This section currently contains a general discussion forum and a Character Registry. You can add your characters to the registry through your user profiles. Once the next season of arenas start & provided we have enough registered characters, we’ll be implementing an ‘Arena rating ladder’. This ladder will showcase the highest rated teams in 2v2, 3v3 & 5v5 consisting of CG members and will be purely for those interested in the scene to have a look at and discuss.

If you play WoW, please add your characters [URL=http://www.cybergamer.com.au/myprofile.php]here[...

EGames Expo Wrap Up from AVF and GBu

By Shane Fowler

Saturday we ventured down to Melbourne to the Exhibition Centre to attend the E-Games expo. Firstly walking through the doors the event was a whole lot larger than last year, and much better set out.

We were immediately drawn to the Alienware area where they had 40 PCs setup playing Call of Duty: World at War and Red Alert 3. Torn between my two favourite games of the moment I flipped and coin and COD5 won. Half way through the round I joined SVT-40 in hand and managed to claw my way to the top of the Free-For-All score list.

I next set out to find somewhere that had Guitar Hero World Tour to play and was disappointed that I couldn’t find it. GH3 but no GH4.

We then found ourselves drawn towards the E-Sports zone, and found ourselves on stage playing in a free for all comp against 5 other people and Inter from Team Immunity's CS 1.6 Team. SCSI failed, Raven failed a little harder and Brownie managed to faill less than both of us.

Point of Note: Microsoft Mouses DON’T WORK on a cotton table cloth! FAIL

All in all it was a good event, even if we had to evacuate the entire Exibition Centre due to the fire alarm.
Looking forward to the event next year.

Thanks go out to MomoWang from GameStah for the invite, the Razer Team for the Free T-Shirts and Jesse from ScorpTech (aka Obez) for the Razer Keyboard Carry Bag.

SCSI.
